Changing Rear Anti-Roll\Stabiliser bushes. ( courtesy of R.Ambrose )This is where they are.
Time is approx 15mins each side (Not including jacking)
For my ’93, 2.8TD the Milner’s kit was £14 +vat & delivery.
Tools required
Jack & axle stand.
14mm spanner
14mm socket
17mm spanner and socket for the Milner’s nuts & bolts
This is what you get from Milners
It is worth giving the nuts and bolts a good dose of penetrating oil and a going over with a wire brush to remove any mud, rust etc.
1. Get the vehicle up on axle stands and the wheels off.
a. The bush securing bolts must be tightened when the bar is unloaded. ie place the axle stands on the chassis not the axle.
2. Replace the D bush, a little silicone grease will prevent squeeking (Got that from this site).
a. Don’t fully tighten the bolt just yet as this will help the front bush installation.
3. Remove the end bolt\bush assembly.
4. The Milner’s kit didn’t have the same number of bush cups as what came off (Mitsu maybe)
5. The old cups held the bushes better in my opinion but don’t be tempted to use 5 cups with the Milner’s kit as it will cause the bushes to compress too much and distort.
6. Being new bushes there wasn’t any thread showing. The bottle jack will help.
7. Tighten the nut keeping everything in line (see it’s gone a bit squiffy at the top).
a. This is the hard bit as otherwise you don’t get the donut shape for strength.
b. Tighten until there is 15 – 17mm of thread exposed.
8. If it has gone right, leave it all done up and come back to it.
a. When you loosen it, it will slowly regain it’s shape giving you time to re-arrange it.
9. Don’t forget to tighten the D bush
10. Repeat for the other side and job’s a good’un (Wheels on & off stands)
